Here is a brief biographical sketch of Brother Andrea (Andrew) Astrico taken from contemporary newspaper reports:

Under "Deaths":

“At his residence, in this city, on the 15th inst., Andrew Astrico, a native of Caino, , Province of Como, Lombardy, Italy, aged 55 years.


The funeral will take place from the Masonic Temple on Tuesday, 18th inst., at 2 p.m. Friends are invited.”

“The late Andrew Astrico’s funeral will take place to-day. He was a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows’ Orders and the Pioneer Society. A full representation of all these organizations will follow the remains to the grave.”

“The funeral of the late Andrew Astrico took place from the Masonic Temple yesterday afternoon. It was numerously attended by Masons, Odd Fellows and Pioneers. The cortege was headed by Haynes’ band, and the remains were interred in Ross Bay cemetery. W. Bro. R.B. McMicking read the funeral service of the Masonic Order.”

Brother Astrico was a native of Caino, Italy. He was a hotelier in Victoria. He was a member of Quadra Lodge, which merged with Vancouver Lodge in June 1877 to form Vancouver & Quadra Lodge, No. 2.

The Vancouver & Quadra Lodge, No. 2 membership records show only Astrico, Andrew, Hotel-Keeper.
